Since February 2019, Mr. Pasquale Sellitto has been working hard as a Project Manager at the Palumbo SY Refit Ancona shipyard. To celebrate this important work anniversary, we seized the opportunity to speak with him about his career since he joined the Palumbo team.
- When did you realise you wanted to work in the yachting industry?
What’s better than a powerful heart hidden underneath a sleek suit? This is, in my opinion, a Superyacht, and what’s better than desiring to be a critical figure who brings the highest level of quality on these constructions?
Since I was young I have always been passionate about all the elements in our surroundings. In particular, since I was born in a seaside town, my passion for the sea grew day by day. I have always been fascinated by the physics hidden behind each thing we see everyday. These things have led me to study Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering and so to desire to work in the marine industry.
If we think about perfection we think about yachting industry. This field embraces at 360° all the subjects I studied during the degree course.
- What does your daily work look like?
As a Project manager of the refit & after sales, my main tasks are coordinating technicians of the various fields, internal and subcontractors, conducting cost analysis and planning various works, direct communication with crews, yacht management, suppliers and subcontractors, on both refit & after sales sides. In particular for the after sales and warranty side, I am in charge of assessing and fixing defects and non-conformities, technical or not.
- What is the biggest challenge you have encountered so far?
My biggest daily challenge is to exceed expectations. I have been a runner and I have always loved and hunted challenges, I try everyday to overcome myself, I work everyday with the belief that we can always do better. Especially in a big team, this is possible when everyone has a common goal. Before beginning each work, I tell all the parts involved in a project that each one is critical, so each one has to help the others.
- What aspect of your job do you like most?
The aspect of my job that I prefer is the direct communication with yacht crews, yacht management, yard workers and subcontractors. It’s really awesome to work in an international context, enhancing day by day our know-how and field of expertise together with skilled workers with awareness to do better in order to achieve top levels of quality.
